The Easter Basket
Nothing makes my heart happier than getting to buy gifts that I know will be put to good use. It’s even better when there is a holiday to use as an excuse to give them! Easter baskets, for us, mean getting ready for spring.
Every year my kids need a new bathing suit, whether I am adding to their current collection or starting a brand new one, due to another growth spurt. Either way I have to purchase them. I started the tradition of adding a bathing suit to their Easter baskets- kills two birds with one stone! This year I found super affordable, cute suits at regular ole’ Target! I had to do the lightning bolts but I did love these too!
My kids received sunglasses for Christmas this year – of course my mother feeds my obsession. She knows we need multiple pairs of sunglasses; one for each car, a pair in case we lose them, a pair for inside my purse and/or the stroller, different colors, the list goes on, our house is swarming with sunglasses. I don’t mind one bit! Pax had a pair of babiators that were passed down from G. The best part is, they are guaranteed for life. The ones from Christmas were babiators too. They stay on their head and never break.
If you are a parent you understand that feet are the fastest growing body part ever… I have specific shoes that I like each child to have: white sneakers, sandals, rain boots, play sneakers, and a dress shoe. And, if the budget allows, I continue to add to their collection. Old Navy has super cheap little flip flops. These are perfect to run out of the house in, and if you lose them they are so simple to replace. Also, when they grow out of them, its not a financial loss at all! Last year, we had the white slip on Vans. They went with every outfit imaginable; however, my boys did not like them. They were hard to put on and gave Giacobi blisters. Paxton’s baby feet were too wide. This year we went back to converse.
Another update I like to add is some sort of light jacket. The easiest and most practical is a denim jacket. I would recommend a light bomber or a light rain coat.
Some fun gift items and a better alternative to candy: headphones (easy find in the dollar bins at target) tattoos, yard games, pool toys, beach toys, an umbrella, hair gel, bath soap, toothbrushes, chalk, bubbles, paint, play dough, beach towels, sunscreen, bed sheets, water bottle -OR- How about an experience? Like gift cards to Billy Bees, or a local amusement park, movie tickets, museum visit, zoo passes. And there’s always the great surprise of a gift card.
So this Easter, as you load up your practical, yet awesome baskets for your children, stop and reflect on all we have to be thankful for and most importantly the reason why we celebrate the day to begin with. I’m praying you and your family have a blessed Easter!
