Cuff Like a Gentlemen
So many people ask me how to cuff their pant legs, I thought, what better time to talk about the cuff then during Gentleman’s week! Do what you will, but the wrong cuff can totally ruin an outfit and your appearance. I’m talking about four different cuffs today. I believe these are the most common and the widely used.
Before I start, let me explain why a cuff may NOT work:
You may have too much fabric to work with; your pants may be too long or too wide. If that is the case get them tailored. (See my services page or click the link for information on my personal seamstress, Alexis Reed https://www.facebook.com/AlexisReedDesigns?fref=ts .)
You may be too short to cuff. If you use too wide of a cuff, see below, it shortens your leg length and doesn’t flatter someone who is already short to begin with.
You may have used the wrong cuff with the wrong shoe.
You may be trying to cuff the wrong fabric.
Choice number 1- The 1x Cuff or the 1 Flip.
You use this cuff if your jeans are a pinch too long and you don’t want to get them tailored or they look good without a cuff with a different shoe. Let me be clearer, if you wear a jean like this with sneakers, they probably will look great just worn normal. But when you switch to an oxford or a boat shoe as pictured, you may want them to rest right on the top of the shoe.
Choice number 2- The 2x Cuff or the Double Flip
I use this cuff a lot for Giacobi. He has really long legs so he doesn’t lose leg length. Also, kids grow so fast it wouldn’t be worth tailoring. The double cuff can be worn very neat or a little messy to relax the look. This cuff can be worn with any shoe as long as it doesn’t turn into a lot of bulk. You want everything to be sleek, never bulky.
Choice number 3- The Pinroll
This cuff consists of pinching the side then rolling the jean up into a cuff. This can be used when the jean is too wide. I like this roll for more of a relaxed look. When I want to dress down my husband’s chino pants, this is the perfect cuff!
Choice number 4- The Wide Cuff
This cuff is worn incorrectly more than any of the others. If you are age 3 its super cute! If you’re 30, not so much! This cuff shortens the leg length big time! It can definitely be worn, just be careful when it is used. My best advice would be to save this cuff for boots!
