The Gentlemen’s Guide to Sunglasses
My husband and I wear sunglasses all year round. I highly recommend investing in a really great quality pair of sunglasses. Obviously sunglasses protect the eye from UV Rays and comfort eyes from glare and light. But they also protect from skin cancer and also help prevent wrinkles due to sun damage and squinting.
If you haven’t invested already the first step in doing so is to figure out your face shape. This will help determine what will look the best. Just a little sending a little love your way- they will not be cool glasses if they don’t look good!
Here is a picture to help you choose your face shape!
Below is a description of the face shape, along with some suggestions and styles I recommend! **Pictures are from Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. I wanted to find simple and accessible sunglasses for an affordable price. My choices would vary with each client. These examples are for shape factors, not ultimate choices.
Oval Face– If your going to have a face, oval is the face shape to have! HA! Oval faces can wear any shape lens! So go… be blessed! I choose this retro pair because they are close to the wayfarer, which will be on trend for years to come and they are super easy to find anywhere!
Round Face– For a rounded face you want to buy something that will make your face look slimmer. Go with a rectangle shape or a square shape lens.

Heart Face– The heart shape face usually means that your face narrows towards the chin, you want to find a lens that elongates the face. Rimless or aviator work well. The heart shape can also pull of a larger frame! I picked the pair below because they are a larger lens, thinner frame, but they still have the aviator shape.
Square Face– Square faces tend to have a really sharp jaw line. Pick a lens that is more oval or round. Aviators are a big hit with square faces and don’t fall of the trend wagon from year to year! I chose a more square option to show that aviators come in slightly different shapes.

Oblong Face– Definitely avoid small lenses, the bigger the better in this case. Oblong faces can wear thicker frames as well as larger lenses. My advice would be to switch up the lens shape. It adds dimension to a longer face.

Diamond or Triangle Face– Diamond and triangle faces have really great cheekbones! Don’t buy larger than your cheekbones. Stick with frames that are more simpler- rimless frames for example.

Once you have a style choice selected use my three steps. Function, price, and style.
Function– Are they functional with my life? Do they compliment my wardrobe as well as my activities. The same glasses I wear for a lunch date are not the same glasses I wear for Volley Ball on the beach.
Price– How much are they? I will not spend $300 on a pair of sunglasses just to wear them one time. If that’s the case I wouldn’t spend more than $10 on something like that!
Style– Do they fit? Do they look good? And are they different from what I already own?
The final step is to figure out the color. If you have black opt for the silver or tortoise. If you have an aviator switch over to the wayfarer. Be smart with your purchases! Don’t buy just to buy and don’t buy name brand if you aren’t in love with the purchase! Be in love with each purchase there is no reason to regret things that can be avoided.
